There's a heavy focus on single BDSMers, or at least people planning on playing with people other than their partners. Many chapters and sections are totally not relevant to long-term monogamous couples and the ones that are relevant still have that undertone of "play parties as default". Less than a page is devoted to introducing BDSM to an existing relationship, and that advice is kind of obvious and should all go without saying to anyone in a healthy relationship. If on top of being monogamous, you've already seen the toy options, are aware of safety issues, and can communicate with your partner, you won't find much value. Otherwise the book seems well-researched. I had been hoping for more of a menu and how-to guide -- you know, things to actually DO when you're topping -- but this book doesn't offer much of that.
